The Top 40 Basketball Movies - #10. One on One

The Top 40 Basketball Movies - #10. One on One
One on One

Spike Lee named it the worst sports movie ever made. It was not a movie I ever heard of, though that could be true for half the movies on this list. It probably isn't too well known even back in 1977 but it is sneaky good in my opinion. It takes a while to warm up the small town, rube like main character Henry Steele and the heavily 70's backdrop but you stop noticing pretty quick into the movie. A young Melanie Griffith robs Henry in a car in the very first scene, then he gets sexually harassed by a secretary in the next scene. Some pieces remind me of Rocky, there is quite a bit of training here. Henry faces off against his coach for most of the movie after the coach deems Henry unsuitable for the scholarship that he was given. Sort of like the Rocky/Mickey relationship, but even worse. I quite enjoyed the somewhat shocking ending. Henry isn't playing well immediately despite his high expectations and takes some drugs, given to him by his roommate, to loosen up during one game and makes a complete fool of himself. Henry doesn't know how to read so he is assigned a tutor Janet who becomes the love interest. One on one as a meaning has several possibilities. Either Henry is facing himself, his to be girlfriend or his coach. Either way it certainly beats Catch a Falling Star as a title. Robbie Benson who co-wrote the screenplay with his father and had real life heart issues while filming also voiced the Beast in Beauty and the Beast, plays Henry. Annette O'Toole plays Janet who also played Lana Lang in Superman 3. The coach G.D. Spradlin had some parts in Godfather 2 and Apocalypse Now. It could have gone either way from an internet consensus ranking standpoint. 15 out of 40 is decent and kind of validates my placement of 12, though it wasn't enough to counter act the 88 to 52 rotten tomato critic score against Above the Rim.

50 Favorite Adult Swim Characters

I tried to get a good variety and yet be fair to what I like the most. I'm sure there are one I've missed and some that might be surprising but if it aired on Adult Swim - I can use it. I didn't use any characters from either Robot Chicken or Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! as they are basically clip shows and while good, the re-occurring characters aren't used enough. Also, it turns out H. Jon Benjamin is the voice for half these shows. 50. Chains     Fat Guy Stuck in Internet 49. Assy McGee    Assy McGee H. Jon Benjamin plays the mayor. 48. Vexing Devil Giving an opponent a choice is never a good idea. However I really feel like it's win win here in the aggressive deck. A 4/3 for one will almost always be worth a card. So the real question is - is it worth a card to deal 4 damage for a red? It's not quite Flame Slash good in a control deck, or as great top deck as Thunderous Wrath but better than Thunderbolt or Lava Axe . 19. Scute Mob Not a true one drop. But by turn six hopefully you are going get a hydra-like insect that will quickly get insanely huge if not dealt with. My biggest issue is that it doesn't have trample. It's still a great costed creature that can do some work if unchecked. There are lots of ways to give it Trample in Green not named Rancor . 18. Dragonmaster Outcast And yet another non-true o
