It's only been out a week, but Dragon's Maze does have some good cards. Maybe about 40 of the 160 are playable. 15 of these top 20 are gold. It was easy getting to 30, the 10 I left off were close.
20. Blaze Commando
Takes some work to get this card going. But in the right deck - ie) Boros - it will do wonders. Add a Gleam of Battle, or Legion's Initiative and it will rock.
19. Deadbridge Chant
Expensive and doesn't affect the board. However, this will generate some serious and free card advantage after a few turns.
18. Sin Collector
Early game this can be devastating. Late game, it might just be a really expensive 2/1 creature.
17. Skylasher
Owns Mr. Grizzly Bear. Not overly powerful, but great value especially as a blue/weenie sideboard.
16. Boros Battleshaper
Very expensive, but will win the game hands down if not dealt with.
15. Renegade Krasis
Needs to be in the right kind of deck. But any simic/evolve deck is going to want one of these.
I don't think as good as Master Biomancer
14. Blood Scrivener
Cheap creature that is great both early and late game. Obviously great card advantage and perfect for most black decks.
13. Putrefy
Best removal in the set.
Murder, Shatter combo with a non regeneration bonus.
Probably better than Terminate.
12. Blood Baron of Vizkopa
Good value here. The 30 life part is only relevant in specific decks, but a 10/10 lifelink creature is nothing to sneeze at. Also hoses other Orzov decks.
11. Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch
Eats Hill Giant for breakfast. First strike and haste are relevant. Unleash can backfire now and then, but generally a plus. Giving other creatures with counters haste might be nice though I'm not sure how often that would come up in a Rakdos deck.
10. Voice of Resurgence
It's the leader of all Keldon Warlords. Kisses combat tricks good-bye.
9. Tithe Drinker
Best two drop of all Dragon's Maze and possibly the whole block. Even late game not a sad card to draw as extort is always great. Can gain a great amount of life if not matched or dealt with. Pair a bunch of these with the Blood Baron and do some work.
8. Pontiff of Blight
Provides a great amount of value. Turns all your creatures into machines. Also provides a great blocker. Will take over the game if not dealt with.
7. Savageborn Hydra
Thought about making this my number one. Double Strike is such a great ability. The ability to pump this thing at any phase of the game is what makes it better than Nimbus Swimmer or a typical leveler. All it needs is Rancor.
6. AEtherling
Unblock-able, bi-pumpable and evasion. Quite a beast to deal with. Does cost a bit, but if it lives until turn 7 the tides will have turned.
5. Advent of the Wurm
Once upon a time Juzam Djinn was my favorite card. This is a flash, trampler with no drawback. Just awesome value.
4. Progenitor Mimic
A creature which gives Vesuvan Doppelganger a run for it's money. Given a good target, this will win the game.
3. Ral Zarek
I don't care for tapping and untapping permanents, but he is cheap. Once you have enough loyalty to throw lightning bolts around or gain a few extra turns then it will be a fun game.
2. Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts
Probably too expensive. Anything costing 7 mana should do wonders for you. Karplusan Giant excluded. Free swinger every turn with angel size and also venoms with Afterlife putting a creature on your side. Sold.
1. Master of Cruelties
Not sure how this can't be number one. A must block every turn. It will wipe out a creature every turn worst case scenario. Best case your opponent's life is gone. Rakdos is also the guild with the most damage spells.
