The Top 40 Basketball Movies - #2. Hoosiers

The Top 40 Basketball Movies - #2. Hoosiers
Hoosiers
One of the first movies that comes up when talking with people about what the best basketball movie is. Only eclipsed by Air and Hoosiers from a critic standpoint but Air is very recent so doesn't get the benefit of the doubt. Audience score is only like 7th for RT which maybe it's biggest reason it's number 2 though I put it 4th as well. I'm just a White Men Can't Jump fan and this was the first time watching Hoosiers.  And if we count BASEketball as a basketball movie, which I did here, I think 4th is reasonable. Can you guess #1 yet? With such high expectations I did my best to watch it trying not to let that impede my judgment. It's better to me than The Way Back and Coach Carter but not by much. Though the plot is very similar to those two. New coach, nobody believes in us concept. Takes the coach awhile to warm up and the town in this case takes time to warm up. We have a star athlete that won't play for the coach immediately but becomes the deciding factor in Gene Hackman's Norman Dale keeping his job. Gene is still here as of 7/1/23 at 93 years young. He was great in Superman, The Replacements, Unforgiven, The Firm, Crimson Tide, Behind Enemy Lines, Enemy of the State, The Chamber and it just goes on. Barbara Hershey was in The Last Temptation of Christ, Falling Down, 11:14, Black Swan, Insidious, Swing Kids, The Right Stuff, The Natural. Dennis Hopper earns his only Oscar nomination and I didn't even recognize him. He plays a drunk that knows quite a bit about basketball that Dale hires as his assistant. Director David Anspaugh did Rudy after Hoosiers, but beyond that I'm not familiar with his work. Apparently Hackman was very negative when making the movie and never thought it would amount to anything. Local basketball players made up of the actors. It's well deserving of top 5 and even 1 or 2. I'm sure I'll watch it again at some point.

50 Favorite Adult Swim Characters

I tried to get a good variety and yet be fair to what I like the most. I'm sure there are one I've missed and some that might be surprising but if it aired on Adult Swim - I can use it. I didn't use any characters from either Robot Chicken or Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! as they are basically clip shows and while good, the re-occurring characters aren't used enough. Also, it turns out H. Jon Benjamin is the voice for half these shows. 50. Chains     Fat Guy Stuck in Internet 49. Assy McGee    Assy McGee H. Jon Benjamin plays the mayor. 48. The Mayor    Tom Goes to the Mayor A Picture of Jeff Goldbloom instead of the Mayor, but this was by far the funniest thing on the show. 47. Inuyasha    Inuyasha 46. Satan     Lucy: The Daughter of the Devil Wears Bill Cosby sweaters and is always trying to kill his daughters boyfriend DJ Jesus. Yeah... One of the H. Jon Benjamin voices...

Vexing Devil Giving an opponent a choice is never a good idea. However I really feel like it's win win here in the aggressive deck. A 4/3 for one will almost always be worth a card. So the real question is - is it worth a card to deal 4 damage for a red? It's not quite Flame Slash good in a control deck, or as great top deck as Thunderous Wrath but better than Thunderbolt or Lava Axe . 19. Scute Mob Not a true one drop. But by turn six hopefully you are going get a hydra-like insect that will quickly get insanely huge if not dealt with. My biggest issue is that it doesn't have trample. It's still a great costed creature that can do some work if unchecked. There are lots of ways to give it Trample in Green not named Rancor . 18. Dragonmaster Outcast And yet another non-true o...
