YouTube - Matthew McConaughey Chest Thumping I honestly haven't watched this movie a second time. I don't think it was that good at all or good enough where I feel like I need to re-watch it. I love Leo and Matthew though, so if I were to redo either filmography, this movie fits there. And I love this scene, it sails beyond any other here.  Matthew McConaughey's chest thumping was his own idea. The humming was inspired by McConaughey's real life pre performance ritual. He has described using humming and chest thumping as a way of getting himself into a relaxed, focused state before performing. DiCaprio was already deeply invested in the scene, but McConaughey's improvised behavior threw him off in a way that helped create the natural reaction you see from Jordan. The scene helped establish Hanna immediately. McConaughey only appears in a handful of scenes, but this lunch is essentially Jordan's introduction to the Wall Street lifestyle he's about to embrace....

YouTube - It's the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man "Sub-creatures! Gozer the Gozerian, Gozer the Destructor, Volguus Zildrohar, the Traveller has come! Choose and perish!" Those words always give me chills. It's hard for me to pick a point in this movie and not let it ride to the end. Partly because the ending is so good. I did like bringing Gozer back in Afterlife. Really all the ghost scenes are splendid. The only part in the movie I don't like watching is when Walter Peck goes in to shut down the containment unit. Rick Moranis is a treasure -  YouTube - Yes, Have Some! The opening is also very rewatchable from Bill Murray trying to get a date to a librarian seeing a ghost. YouTube - Setting Traps "This is My House, I Have to Defend It!" Never have stronger words been uttered by a nine year old determined to stop two robbers all by himself. Kevin's plan is insane if you follow it through, but it works ultimately if not by some luck with the neighbor coming by. I don't think I've re-watched a movie more in my life. So obviously I think the entire movie is rewatchable but the end is far and way the best part. This scene is so uplifting and the score is so perfect to how it's edited. Probably the second greatest montage, first to come still on this list. It could easily be a joke of a movie, but I think Macaulay Culkin sells it as being a serious movie. YouTube - Spock Resigns as Captain As far as movies that I've watched in the theater, Star Trek 2009 is top 3 for the most money I have spent on one movie. I think I went to see it roughly ten times. About the same as Star Wars Episode 3, less times than I went to see Avatar. But Avatar tickets were more due to 3D and the movie was quite a bit longer so theater time was probably pretty close even if I only watched it 5ish times. I've never been a  big show fan, but I've watched all the movies multiple times. I tried watching episode 1 of TNG and couldn't make it 15 minutes. I've watched more Voyager than anything. Episode 3 and Star Trek #11 have quite a bit in common. As in they are both space action movies. This movie wasn't popular with pure Trek people as it deviated from what the show was.  For me though I love just about everything about it. I think this is peak J.J. YouTube - A Few Good Men Ending Jack's character in A Few Good Men is so confident, he flat out admits to a crime in open court. This is by far the most famous scene and the best. Jack Nicholson absolutely nailed the scene. Kiefer Sutherland recalled that Nicholson performed the entire sequence from beginning to end in one remarkable take. The room reportedly went completely silent afterward. It was supposed to take much longer to film. The courtroom sequence was scheduled for roughly two or three days, but after Nicholson's performance, director Rob Reiner reportedly decided they had what they needed and wrapped early. Nicholson kept doing it with the same intensity. Reiner needed multiple takes for shots of the other actors reacting, meaning Nicholson had to deliver that explosive performance repeatedly—even when he wasn't necessarily on camera. YouTube - Fight to Survive Another 80's underrated movie. Another mostly fighting movie. Jean-Claude Van Damme doesn't have a ton to do here outside of the circle (rectangle?), but he does his best with his limited language. Acting is not where the movie shines. It shines in the fights and nothing is finer than the montage to the Kumite song. It's very good and gets the nod here, but reminds me of a commercial inside the movie for a better movie.   YouTube - Too Many Secrets "I cannot kill my friend, kill my friend." Sneakers is an outstanding but probably mostly forgotten movie. The cast has James Earl Jones, Sidney Poitier, Robert Redford, Dan Aykroyd, Ben Kingsley plus many others. It's a spy movie, but they aren't spies. IMDB has it listed as Caper,  Dark Comedy,  Comedy,  Crime,  Drama, Mystery,  Thriller. Redford gets the most screen time, but everyone gets a chance to shine. It's fun to look back on what future technology was to look like. It is funny and has good dialogue. It seems to know when it's being too campy. There is some silly dancing and blind driving along the way. It has a great San Francisco setting. It trusts it's audience and doesn't need to explain everything. I don't know anything about Phil Alden Robinson, but he also did Field of Dreams which is a top 3 baseball movie and also has a fantastic soundtrack. In this scene the blind man is the smartest one. YouTube - The Bride vs The Crazy 88 Fight Is it two movies or is it one? Will volume 3 ever come out? However you feel about Kill Bill and Quentin Tarantino, this is one of the finest fight scenes to come out. They had to make a part of it black and white to avoid the NC-17. The lead fighter was the actual trainer. Feels like they couldn't top the scene when Black Mamba finally faces off against O-Ren. O-Ren has quite the backstory build up, QT even adds more to her backstory in the new The Whole Bloody Affair version. But for whatever reasons, she doesn't put up much of a fight to conclude V1. Everything prior to it though is revenge city. My last Tarantino movie scene on this list. I often have a hard time ranking his filmography. It changes daily. At times I think Reservoir Dogs is my favorite, sometimes it's Django, sometimes it's Inglourious, sometimes it's Pulp. Kill Bill would round out my top five but probably closer to top three. YouTube - Caravan Ending Whiplash: A Caravan of Pain, it's a psychological terror of a movie wrapped in drumming. This is J.K. Simmons best character. He's like a dad you really want to please, but you never will. The Inception ending (will the top stop spinning, is it wobbling?) comes down to this smile that Simmons gives. It's either the same fake front he gives this entire scene or it's genuine which is a creepy thing. The Miles Teller vs J.K. Simmons scenes are all rewatchable on their own, but Caravan is extra awesome. "Not quite my tempo" might be the most famous line from the movie. YouTube - I Drink Your Milkshake! This Daniel Planview character played by Daniel Day-Lewis is someone I could watch for hours. I don't have much more insight at the moment so here are some quotes from this beautifully written and acted rewatchable scene. I've Abandoned My Child! I say this anytime I have to walk away from the baby.  They should have put you in a glass jar on the mantlepiece. Where were you when Paul was suckling on your mom? Drainage! I am a false prophet, God is a superstition.  This is what pissed off Daniel so much in the first place. Out devil, out sin! YouTube - Ending Rap Battles If I had to give 8 Mile a fun to drag ratio, it would probably be 15/85. But the 15% is purely wonderful. Whether it's the music, impromptu rap, or general laugh, there's a lot to get out of 8 Mile. It would have been neat to see him make it at the end, but it doesn't really affect anything. The 85% is either a shouting match, anger issues, people hate their work or watching people freeze.  Marshal B-Rabbit Eminem Mathers has to get through The Falcon, Dr. Father, but first he has to beat his 2 Evil Exes. A rapper with a ice cream cone name is defeated by getting mooned by our hero. Next a man in a white tee is dealt with due to a crowd vote, the least accurate kind of vote. Then to everyone's dismay Dr. Father Falcon The chokes after MBREM whips out his new single. There's no other scene that comes close in this movie. YouTube - Scream Ending 1 YouTube - Scream Ending 2 Few horror movies are as endlessly rewatchable, clever, and entertaining as Scream. From its unforgettable opening to its sharp humor, Scream remains one of the most entertaining horror movies ever made. Wes Craven came out with something so original and fresh, there's been six sequels, plus countless copies, spinoffs and parodies. The idea of two killers never crossed anyone's mind in 1996. While the heroes and heroine survive the movie and continue on to all the sequels, it's the villains that are the most interesting and best part of this movie. I haven't saw Scream 7 yet, I know we have had references to Billy being a father, but Stu has been mostly quiet up until 7. I re-watch the ending the most of anything, both characters are out of their minds, chewing up scenery, torturing Sidney. YouTube - It's Enrico Palazzo Honestly everything from the Baseball scene forward in The Naked Gun is pure gold. Most of the movie is fantastic, but this ending ramps it up. Nothing is funnier than the call back to the national anthem.  Now the true most rewatchable scene is the montage I Love LA. From the vacuuming of home plate to spotlight signals, it's a great couple minutes.  YouTube - I Love It The Baseball bloopers are a good bit of comedy for a 45 second thing. YouTube - Baseball Bloopers Second place would go to when Drebin has to prevent the seventh inning stretch from happening as that was when the assassination was going to take place. YouTube - He Was Safe Haven't watched the new one yet. I will, just haven't gotten to it. Mild expectations and nothing will be as good as the ending of this movie. I did like the two sequels, good jokes in both of them. I think the first one is the best though. 

YouTube - Tasty Burger! Books have been written on Pulp Fiction. Many a podcast has been spoken. Quentin Tarantino is still kind of working on his craft here in 1994. Even if it's not your favorite QT film, and for me it depends on the day which is my favorite, it would be hard to argue it's anywhere near the bottom of his filmography. We have had 30+ years of digesting this mostly glorious piece of work. What's in the suitcase? The random scene order. You can see the way he works the burger in, quite unsettling, like the previous Hans Landa scene from #38.  Pulp has more rewatchable scenes than The Departed, but that didn't make it easy to pick one. YouTube - Heavy Lies The Crown Second Jack Nicholson scene on the list and not the last. His character is the rewatchable part of this movie. It wouldn't be the same without him. We know what the movie looks like without him, it's called Infernal Affairs and was made four years prior. I also came into The Departed way too late in life. It's in my top 60 list of all time but could be higher. There is a good mystery in this story. Many similarities to Goodfellas. Leo turns in a great performance, most of the cast does exquiste, but any of them could be replaced except Jack and still keep the movie as powerful as it is. Granted Leo gets the most screen time, so when we are getting the two of them onscreen together, we are paying attention. The scene where the two meet is probably my number two scene. YouTube - Bohemian Rhapsody I don't know if I ever heard Bohemian Rhapsody until my early 20s. Or at least it never grabbed me until then. But it did that one fateful night and it's been one of my favorites ever since. What Mike Myers does with this song is just a perfect introduction to Wayne and Garth. Mike Myers was in Bohemian Rhapsody being against the song. Myers said nobody will bang their heads to this song. Bohemian Rhapsody almost wasn't in the movie. The studio and producer Lorne Michaels wanted something more current, with Guns N' Roses being considered for the scene. Myers fought hard for Queen because he had grown up listening to the song with his brother and friends. He knew exactly how ridiculous and perfect it would be. He was so determined to keep it that he reportedly threatened to quit if they replaced it. Myers wasn't just making it up, either. He had actually spent his teenage years driving around with friends singing along to it. So that scen...

YouTube - Qui-Gon & Obi-Wan vs Darth Maul So much went wrong with the prequel trilogy. From Jar Jar to I don't like sand to From my point of view the Jedi are evil. Way too much nonsense. Midichlorians? What the hell? Darth Vader made C-3P0. So landing on the Millenium Falcon were his son, his mentor, his main driod that he never acknowledges again or the one he created that he never acknowledges again. And they are coming to rescue his daughter. The finale for The Phantom Menace is quite like The Return of the Jedi. There is a space battle, a ground battle and a lightsaber fight. They are pretty big time fillers but are ultimately just big action set pieces that add little to the overall story but put a ribbon on everything. Here you have one character we know nothing about, has one line, shows up, looks wicked, kills our main character. But it sounds and looks awesome when it happens. It's well choreographed. YouTube - ChatGPT goes Sentient This is a chilling introduction to Ultron, and honestly, it feels like a pretty good approximation of what I imagine the birth of digital intelligence, agentic AI, and physical robotics might look like. You create something with incredible knowledge and capability, give it the ability to think and act on its own, and then suddenly realize it doesn't necessarily share your goals. The fact that Ultron wakes up, immediately starts absorbing information, takes down Jarvis and quickly decides that humanity is the problem makes the whole sequence surprisingly unsettling. I absolutely love James Spader's voice for the character. It's not the typical deep, robotic villain voice. Spader can make Ultron sound calm, intelligent, sarcastic, and almost charming one second, then completely unhinged the next. That was very intentional on Joss Whedon's part. YouTube - Final Duel Now here is one where I knew exactly what scene was going to make the list. Nothing even came close in my mind when it came to sheer re-watchability: the final duel in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly . The movie clocks in at about three hours, which is no small commitment when you want to sit down and watch the whole thing. Payback is roughly half as long, and I still re-watch that entire movie all the time. But with The Good, the Bad and the Ugly , I can jump straight to the final showdown and be completely satisfied. While this isn't my favorite Western, it's pretty incredible that a 1966 movie can still feel this impressive almost 60 years later. I also haven't watched the other two movies in the trilogy yet, so I'm going into this one without much comparison. I like it more than Unforgiven , although I see a similarity between the two: most of the movie sits at a pretty solid level, but then the ending takes everything up several notches. And wh...

I love all the songs in The Hobbit, both the Peter Jackson one and the 1977 cartoon version. I would consider the Gollum scene, especially the Andy Serkis one rewatchable as well as the Smaug scene.  The first song I fell in love with was the Down Down to Goblin Town from the cartoon so this is the one I truly believe is the most rewatchable. YouTube - Opening Scene Quentin Tarantino has you hooked in the first scene of IB. Christoph Waltz commands the screen like no other. The first scene is only hinted at being something sinister until the floorboards are revealed to show the family hidden beneath. Landa walks away with the rest of the movie. But here is my second appearance of Brad Pitt, with at least one more coming. There are plenty of scenes I had considered. But the true best scene in the movie, doesn't have Waltz nor Brad Pitt, oh great now I have to watch this movie again. No, the best scene has Michael Fassbender alongside Diane Kruger. YouTube - All Work and No Play Part 1 YouTube - All Work and No Play Part 2 This won't be the last Jack Nicholson sighting on this list. I can think of at least two more scenes that I eat up more than this one. This is one of my favorite horror movies. One of the films that got me into the genre. It's famous King didn't like the result but let's be honest Kubrick did a fantastic job. The 1997 TV remake wasn't close. Doctor Sleep is pretty good, but it's also pretty different. The nitpick that Torrance already starts off as a haunting figure is a reasonable one, however the movie still works. There are a couple other scenes like the 237 and the elevator/redrum scenes that are objectionably scarier. The Here' Johnny scene is more famous, but this one has much more to unpack and is the climax of the relationship of the married couple. Shelley's Wendy finds out what possessed Jack has been up to and eventually clubs him over it.

YouTube - Poker and Bathtub It feels all kinds of wrong for my favorite scene in this movie to not have Denzel in it. Our main character Jake isn't having a good time. Ethan Hawke is doing a hell of an acting job though. I love everything about this scene from the reveal that Alonzo had abandoned him, to escape his company and ending up on the bottom of a bathroom to only be saved by a heroic deed he had done earlier in the movie. The ending scene has probably the most quotable line from the entire thing. YouTube - Godzilla Got Shit On Me Truly every single line that Denzel delivers is poetry which is what makes this scene special. I could probably point out two or three more scenes here where he just does it but instead enjoy my favorite song about Denzel. YouTube - Tis but a Scratch Alright, we'll all it a draw. The Black Knight is my favorite part of this comedy which has some other good moments I considered. Most of the skits are 8/10s at a minimum, but it's short. It clocks in at 90 minutes but the last words are spoken at about 80 minutes. It had these side clips of someone getting killed and the police investigating until at the end, when the police just show up and arrest the knights and that's the end of the movie. YouTube - Achilles vs Hector I like 85% of the movie Troy. It's a little too long with a little too much fluff in places. I could watch every minute of either Brad Pitt or Eric Bana though when they are onscreen. So of course my favorite scene is their fight. Every time I watch it, I get a pit because they really treat Hector as the Aragorn of this movie, so it sucks when he dies with 30 minutes left.  However, I have also been re-watching the beginning quite a bit recently. It moves quickly sets the tone of the two main characters, good stuff.  YouTube - The Introduction of Achilles. This one isn't really rewatchable, but it's funny -  YouTube - Hector! Hector! Hector!

YouTube - You Simply Won't Die Gladiator is so very good. It was hard for me to put this movie in the list, because the whole thing is mostly rewatchable. Each of the fights are in contention here. The Tigris of Gaul fight is currently my favorite. It's kind of peak Maximus, where he has to face off against the undefeated Colosseum champion. If I had any complaint, it would be that I wish Tigris had more of a build up, or merely mentioned somewhere else prior in the movie. YouTube - Wallace's Last Will and Testament to Brendan Gleeson's Hamish YouTube Battle of Stirling I'm already kind of cheating just six movies in by posting two different scenes. The truth is I walk around all day with the following in my head: "You know what happens if you don't take that chance Steve?" "Nothing" But the actual rousing moment of this entire movie (not counting the mace scene) is the Battle of Stirling. Wallace's Freedom speech is a goodie. I don't care how inaccurate this movie is from a historical perspective, or how much of a looney toon that Gibson has become, or always was. I think this movie is fantastic. I don't watch it as much now as when I was younger. We have more options now and 3 hours is a sizeable request. The bronze medal would have to go to Longshanks throwing his son's male lover out the window.

YouTube Link I highly dislike 90% of this movie. From the aliens with nothing interesting to do other than to go pew-pew, to the humans with nothing interesting to do other than run. The humans want to eat each other for a station wagon. Tom Cruise and his entire family are all annoying. The ending is awful, rushed and unearned. The 10% of the movie that I do like involves Tom’s character running from the tripods, or get taken by one. I love the foghorn sound the tripods make. The first introduction of the aliens has a mystery element as well as that haunting sound.

YouTube Link No one outside of comic book fans probably remembers this movie. Spawn was popular in the early 90s and eventually got a live action movie, two months after the incredibly silly Batman & Robin and two months after the Spawn animated HBO cartoon show came this revenge tale and what it means to be a hero. Those of us that do remember it probably do for several reasons.  They might remember the bad special effects, or at least some special effects that don't hold up to this day, and barely did even back 30 years ago in 1997. Malebolgia a stand in for the devil, was not much better than a picture someone made on Microsoft paint or something out of the Reboot tv show. The cape was mixed, at times it looked cool, other times it looked completely ridiculous.  They might remember it for Martin Sheen, who had no business being in this movie. The strange plot, where you get to keep someone's soul if you kill them, but they have to kill you first, maybe or something like...

Small rumbling, moving water, missing goat, the claw, the eye, the flashlight. We had only saw about 4 dinos so far at this point in the movie and one was a baby and the other was sick. We did see a Velociraptor kill in the beginning, but now having met these characters and kids, this is a whole new terror. I think it's the peak of what of what Dr. Grant does in any of the 4/5 movies he is in. Probably peak for Malcolm as well, maybe even the cowardly bathroom lawyer. The automated car turns around after the power goes out and the storm comes. Ellie is gone, but so is the lawyer once he gets once good look at Roberta. So what was a dud passing through the first time around, ole Rexy showed herself once the cars decided to stop next to her joint.

It took me three nights, though the film is broken up into two parts basically (pre and post montage and Frank’s death). The first part of the movie is vastly superior to the second as it’s more fun to root for the underdog Tony instead of the cracked out abuser. The only other scene I considered was the chainsaw scene though I really like the death of Frank. Neither is as rewatchable in a vacuum as the ending though. Michelle Pfeiffer’s first role. The movie wasn’t even filmed in Miami. It’s long at 170 minutes but the ending feels rushed. Tony’s betrayal of Sosa and his sister going crazy with the death of Manny leads to an epic showdown where he gets shot many times but not before he makes his mark and dies in a pool next to the World is Yours statue.

I've never been a big musical fan. I would go to live shows when I was younger and get bored during the singing parts. Something about this song in particular gets me though, maybe watching my sister do a dance number when we were little hits me in the nostalgia. The ending song - You're the One That I Want, would be an easy #2 for me, but this is the winner. I don't revisit it as much as an adult after liking it all this time but it comes in at 49. It's been parodied to hell, the Bill Clinton one especially lives with me all these years.  I have so many list and blog ideas. I need to finish James Bond movies, I’m working on TV intros and sometime eventually I’ll do baseball movies. This one will be counting down my 50 most rewatchable movie scenes. Recency bias is definitely in effect here. Music had a big influence on my selections. About a third of them are either song numbers directly or the song influences how I feel about it. Some were tough cuts with music like Aladdin and The Lion King or more obscure ones like Bad Times at the El Royale. These are not the greatest movie scenes of all time and not necessarily my favorite of all time but the ones I keep coming back to.
