This won't be the last Jack Nicholson sighting on this list. I can think of at least two more scenes that I eat up more than this one. This is one of my favorite horror movies. One of the films that got me into the genre. It's famous King didn't like the result but let's be honest Kubrick did a fantastic job. The 1997 TV remake wasn't close. Doctor Sleep is pretty good, but it's also pretty different. The nitpick that Torrance already starts off as a haunting figure is a reasonable one, however the movie still works.
There are a couple other scenes like the 237 and the elevator/redrum scenes that are objectionably scarier. The Here' Johnny scene is more famous, but this one has much more to unpack and is the climax of the relationship of the married couple. Shelley's Wendy finds out what possessed Jack has been up to and eventually clubs him over it.
