Shaken, Not Stirred: Ranking The Bond Movies - #11. Thunderball

Thunderball
The fourth Connery outing in four straight years. The Bond movies wouldn't come out at this rate ever again. Terence Young completes his 'trilogy' starting with Dr. No and following up with From Russia. Because Guy Hamilton's Goldfinger gets praise as the best or at least top 3 in so many eyes, Thunderball was destined for some sort of a letdown. Eon does find their footing and formula by this time. We finally get a Connery gun barrel scene. Dr. No gets praise for being the original and has some of the elements, but Thunderball has the water lair, spy infiltration, and eventual showdown between lead characters and outside fighting (60 divers were used in the underwater climatic battle) that we would come to see so many times. "Oh Shit, let's just do what we always do. Highjack some nuclear weapons and hold the world hostage?" - Dr. Evil. There have been several attempts at sort of remaking this story, and for good reason. Even at it's worst Thunderball is an interesting plot and setting. Never Say Never and Spy Who Loved Me both try to remake good portions of Thunderball. Just having come back from the Nassau, Bahamas about a month ago I do remember one of our boat guides point out an area that supposedly was in the movie, so on this watch I was looking for it, but I came up empty without studying it too hard. Part of the issue I think is that the movie gets worse as it goes on. I think if it was a bit shorter it would be better regarded as the last act kind of takes a toll. Thunderball is not really out of character though at 2 hours and 10 minutes. Adolfo Celi's Largo has charisma and while he is someone to be feared, he was never as striking as Blofeld could be. Luciana Paluzzi auditioned for Domino and almost went to Raquel Welch, but instead went to Claudine Auger. We get to see a 00 meeting and a real jet-pak in the beginning. The most popular Bond, having increased popularity from Goldfinger. Was only the second highest grossing of 1966 behind Dr. Zhivago. Also the most expensive Bond at the time. No Shaken but Stirred Martini here instead it's a Dom Perignon 55 champagne.

50 Favorite Adult Swim Characters

I tried to get a good variety and yet be fair to what I like the most. I'm sure there are one I've missed and some that might be surprising but if it aired on Adult Swim - I can use it. I didn't use any characters from either Robot Chicken or Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! as they are basically clip shows and while good, the re-occurring characters aren't used enough. Also, it turns out H. Jon Benjamin is the voice for half these shows. 50. Chains     Fat Guy Stuck in Internet 49. Assy McGee    Assy McGee H. Jon Benjamin plays the mayor. 48. The Mayor    Tom Goes to the Mayor A Picture of Jeff Goldbloom instead of the Mayor, but this was by far the funniest thing on the show. 47. Inuyasha    Inuyasha 46. Satan     Lucy: The Daughter of the Devil Wears Bill Cosby sweaters and is always trying to kill his daughters boyfriend DJ Jesus. Yeah... One of the H. Jon Benjamin voices...

Vexing Devil Giving an opponent a choice is never a good idea. However I really feel like it's win win here in the aggressive deck. A 4/3 for one will almost always be worth a card. So the real question is - is it worth a card to deal 4 damage for a red? It's not quite Flame Slash good in a control deck, or as great top deck as Thunderous Wrath but better than Thunderbolt or Lava Axe . 19. Scute Mob Not a true one drop. But by turn six hopefully you are going get a hydra-like insect that will quickly get insanely huge if not dealt with. My biggest issue is that it doesn't have trample. It's still a great costed creature that can do some work if unchecked. There are lots of ways to give it Trample in Green not named Rancor . 18. Dragonmaster Outcast And yet another non-true o...
