The first Moore movie is by far one of the strangest titles to exist. Connery turned down $5.5M to come back. Moore was already 45 at the time of this first outing coming from years of The Saint. It's even wackier than Moonraker's Star Wars rip off, You Only Live Twice's Japan, Diamond's Vegas, Die Another Day's surfing, etc. Voodoo or the supernatural is bizarre as far as weapons or gimmicks goes. Doesn't actually take place in Jamaica or any real country but we do get to see Bond's home for just the second time. We do get scenes in New Orleans and Harlem and they stand out in a good way. No Q here, but the watch has several important roles. The only Moore movie to have Felix Leiter. I don't know the actual leads too well. Yaphet Kotto was Parker in Alien, so I've watched him a ton in that role. Jane Seymour was in Wedding Crashers but her Solitaire is one of the best Bond girls and the only to beat Bond in cards. They introduce the Clifton James Sheriff Pepper part which is probably the oddest character in any Bond movie. The boat chase had some fun elements but I'm not sure if Pepper helps or not. 17/26 boats were destroyed. Several things definitely work for me in the movie. The alligator farm for example is really neat. It took the stuntman 6 times to do it correctly. The double decker bus chase was good. Moore and co-star Holder were both afraid of snakes. Moore brought his overprotective wife and kidney stones with him onset. The first Bond to have an outing with a black woman. I do think it belongs solidly in the middle of Bond movies overall. It's a fun movie as is Octopussy where as Man With the Golden Gun, Quantum, World, Diamonds for example are lacking in that area. The Moore Bonds do flirt with being the line of being too silly or parodies that you don't get with early Connery, Dalton or Craig. There are at least two more Moore's better than Live, but you could also argue Moonraker, which we shall get to shortly.
