100 Movies - Number 2! (51-60)

Honorable Mention: There Will be Blood
Photobucket
Genre - Drama
Notable Cast -
Daniel Day-Lewis, Paul Dano
Synopsis - An oil tycoon has to balance religion and family in order to turn a profit.

What I think - I had no expectations going in and it delivers. Day-Lewis gives one of the best performances of all time. Very captivating.

Interesting fact - The movie was originally given the equivalent of a G rating in the UK, and an R in the US
How much did this movie make - $1.22 to everyone in England

60. Shooter
Photobucket
Genre - Action-Mystery
Notable Cast -
Mark Wahlberg, Danny Glover, Elias Koteas
Synopsis - An marksman is talked out of seclusion by colleagues who need his help in preventing a plot to kill the president. But he realizes he's been set up.
What I think - The sniping scenes are done very well -  almost video game like. The movie does seem tedious near the end - over 2 hour running time. Definitely different than I expected - in a good way. Wahlberg gives a decent performance, but you can see the plot coming a mile away - and it doesn't make too much sense.

Interesting fact - Keanu Reeves was supposed to play the hero and Eminem was supposed to play the villain.
How much did this movie make - .73 cents to every soldier who died in WW2

59. Unknown
Photobucket
Genre - Action-Thriller
Notable Cast -
Liam Neeson, Diane Kruger, January Jones
Synopsis - A man who regains consciousness after an auto accident only to discover that another man is impersonating him, and that no one - not even his wife - recognizes him.
What I think - Fun ride, though on a second watch I don't know if I would find it nearly as enjoyable. People said the plot is obvious, but it takes certain turns so you don't ever know where it's really going. It's a good perplexing mystery and you get to learn along with Neeson what's going on.

Interesting fact - Martin Harris was born on June 7th. This is also the birthday of Liam Neeson
How much did this movie make - Enough to buy art piece - 'The Scream'

58. Machete
Photobucket
Genre - Action-Thriller
Notable Cast -
Robert De Niro, Steven Seagal, Jessica Alba
Synopsis - An ex-Federale is hired to shoot a politician to win the election but creates a series of events which lead to border war
What I think - Moves at a fabulous rate, no dull moments. Ridiculous to a good extent. The climax has some nice surprises. Though it seemed to have the same set up that Shooter did(see above). They build up the baddies to a nice enough level so there are stakes.

Interesting fact - Based on the fake trailer of Robert Rodriguez's double feature for Grindhouse/Planet Terror
How much did this movie make - 90 dollars to every baby born in one day

57. Highlander
Photobucket
Genre - Action-Fantasy
Notable Cast -
Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery
Synopsis - Immortals battling for centuries square off in modern day New York.
What I think - Completely excelled in what it did given what they knew at the time. Lambert is a star here and Connery is also at the top of his game. I personally don't like the bad guy's lack of charisma, but so be it - he is what he needs to be: a mean sob. The quickening also doesn't make too much sense - especially given the sequels but not necessarily a critique of this movie. I loved the mid-evil times elements.

Interesting fact - Lambert learned English and an accent just prior to shooting
How much did this movie make - 4 and a quarter million gallons of gas

56. Safety Not Guaranteed
Photobucket
Genre - Comedy
Notable Cast -
Mark Duplass, Aubrey Plaza, Jake M. Johnson
Synopsis - A team of journalist seek to uncover a man who places a classified about time travel.
What I think - The main 3 are all actors I know and like from different shows. They do a good job here, but the problem I have with it is some of the script elements. It's warm with real characters. The 3rd act doesn't do anything for me and it's almost a disservice to the movie. And that includes more than the climax - but there is enough charm here to be watchable.

Interesting fact - The original classified ad upon which the film is based first appeared in Backwoods Home Magazine in 1997.
How much did this movie make - 300 robots

55. Total Recall (Original)
Photobucket
Genre - Sci-Fi-Mystery
Notable Cast -
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sharon Stone, Michael Ironside
Synopsis - A construction worker decides to have a virtual reality trip which disables a memory chip implanted in his brain and he remembers his life as a spy
What I think - The set and design were excellent for the time. The mystery is entertaining for the most part, though I don't think they do a good enough job convincing us that he's not tripping. But maybe that's good to not confuse us more. Action is fairly mediocre. The real meat of the movie is watching Arnie follow his own orders from the past until he meets his previous motive.

Interesting fact - Went through 40 scripts and 7 directors and got an X rating
How much did this movie make - 26 billion kilowatts of electricity

54. Mission Impossible 3
Photobucket
Genre - Action Adventure
Notable Cast -
Tom Cruise, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ving Rhames
Synopsis - Hunt attempts to save his protege from an arms dealer but gets double crossed.
What I think - It's biggest sin is telling us it's a MI movie but delivering something different just with masks. My biggest flaw with it came around the middle of the movie where they tell us there is something 'impossible' that Ethan has to do and then they don't show it at all. Instead the reserved movie focuses around a double crossing agent (hardly a surprise). Hoffman is good though I'm mixed about the beginning - I always hate revealing beginnings. And we don't care or believe that Hunt is married or will stay married for another movie.

Interesting fact - Kenneth Branagh, Carrie-Anne Moss, Ricky Gervais, David Fincher all dropped out
How much did this movie make - 397 whales

53. Transformers 2
Photobucket
Genre - Action-Sci-Fi
Notable Cast -
Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, John Turturro
Synopsis - When the decepticon leader gets revived he attempts to free his master
What I think - Obviously the racist robots are the worst part. The Devastator scene is my favorite one by far. I don't like the fact that Megatron gets taken out by humans or that Sam revives Optimus Prime through the power of love...or something... Too many nameless robots. I like John Turturro, but the enemy scrotum line was so so awful. The Fallen also gets built up a ton just to get killed fairly easy.

Interesting fact - Shia LaBeouf was in a car crash. One of LaBeouf's hands required surgery. Production was only delayed 2 days; Michael Bay filmed second unit scenes, and LaBeouf recovered a few weeks earlier than expected. Bay had the hand injury to be written into the story.
How much did this movie make - 627 million miller lites

52. Kung Fu Hustle
Photobucket
Genre - Action-Comedy
Notable Cast -
No one I'm terribly familiar with.
Synopsis - An aspiring gangster tries to join a gang which unintentionally sets the gang against the whole town.
What I think - Action scenes are good despite the bar raised really high for these types of movies.
Amazing at times, especially near the end. The two antagonists are silly, but I like what they do with the woman(pictured) and the masters.
Interesting fact - Highest-grossing Hong Kong-made movie in Hong Kong
How much did this movie make - Over 200,000 hours of a good magician

51. Revenge of the Nerds
Photobucket
Genre - Comedy
Notable Cast -
Anthony Edwards, John Goodman, Donald Gibb
Synopsis - Two new college kids try to find a frat and make enemies with the jocks.
What I think - It takes a little while to get going but once you are settled in with the characters it really takes off. The games are the best part, the ad-libbed speech at the end isn't a great fit. Goodman is hilariously unlikable and Ogre is always the best part of every scene. That song is catchy to me!

Interesting fact - The two leads rushed for real as a test and didn't get in.
How much did this movie make - 2.8 million tickets to the zoo

50 Favorite Adult Swim Characters

I tried to get a good variety and yet be fair to what I like the most. I'm sure there are one I've missed and some that might be surprising but if it aired on Adult Swim - I can use it. I didn't use any characters from either Robot Chicken or Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! as they are basically clip shows and while good, the re-occurring characters aren't used enough. Also, it turns out H. Jon Benjamin is the voice for half these shows. 50. Chains     Fat Guy Stuck in Internet 49. Assy McGee    Assy McGee H. Jon Benjamin plays the mayor. 48. The Mayor    Tom Goes to the Mayor A Picture of Jeff Goldbloom instead of the Mayor, but this was by far the funniest thing on the show. 47. Inuyasha    Inuyasha 46. Satan     Lucy: The Daughter of the Devil Wears Bill Cosby sweaters and is always trying to kill his daughters boyfriend DJ Jesus. Yeah... One of the H. Jon Benjamin voices...

Vexing Devil Giving an opponent a choice is never a good idea. However I really feel like it's win win here in the aggressive deck. A 4/3 for one will almost always be worth a card. So the real question is - is it worth a card to deal 4 damage for a red? It's not quite Flame Slash good in a control deck, or as great top deck as Thunderous Wrath but better than Thunderbolt or Lava Axe . 19. Scute Mob Not a true one drop. But by turn six hopefully you are going get a hydra-like insect that will quickly get insanely huge if not dealt with. My biggest issue is that it doesn't have trample. It's still a great costed creature that can do some work if unchecked. There are lots of ways to give it Trample in Green not named Rancor . 18. Dragonmaster Outcast And yet another non-true o...
